he Wayne State University Student Affiliate of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (WSU/NOBCChE) was chartered in 1989. It is part of a national structure that includes both professional, associate, and student members.
The national level of NOBCChE has a number of opportunities for both minority pre-college and college students. The national structure serves as a resource for employment, financial aid in the form of scholarships, professional development, and mentoring for its members.
The annual agenda of WSU/NOBCChE over the past years has focused on community service in terms of promoting science particularly chemistry and chemical engineering in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Additionally, WSU/NOBCChE has created a format that addresses the support of minority students enrolled in a science curriculum at the university.
In terms of professional development, WSU/NOBCChE attends functions of selected professional chapters in its proximity such as attending NOBCChE's Midwestern Regional and Annual Meetings, where students present research and participate in workshops.
WSU/NOBCChE's goal is to provide a community of motivated learners whose desire is to pursue science related careers at the pre-college and college levels. Moreover, this student organization supports these individuals in this endeavor.
